Wood Valley Farm

Already you can see a community building up and the possibilities floor-game-wise are opening out. The additional advantage of the Wood Valley Farm is that the buildings stack inside each other, along with the walls and one or two other items, so what took up a floor area of at least a metre square compacts to the volume of the barn - 40 x 26 x 30 cm (16" x 10" x 12").

I have been careful to maximise compatibility between all the pieces, ie. the people and horses can look out of windows, the tractor can go through the barn door. I try to keep the right architectural feel to each of the internal spaces, ie. the openess of the barn, the low ceiling in the stable.

Most of the animals were designed by Pintoys. I did the horse, sheep, lamb, doves and dogs. Wood Valley Farm is a base concept to which further supplements have and will be made.

Each of the WVF sets of items make up complete play scenarios in their own right - the duck pond with its duck house and ducks, the Gymkana set, the shepherd set, the farm rover and trailer, the pig sty with pigs - and as you add more sets, the play possibilities expand exponentially. Bring in other elements and the farm really comes to life. Try putting cushions under a rug to make a hillside or use pieces of mat, rug or cloth to make fields under different types of cultivation.

Barn

This open back unit houses all the other buildings - see below. Comes with several different lengths of wall, a gate and 3 doves. Dimensions: 40 x 26 x 30 (16" x 10" x 12")

No farm can work without a tractor. This jolly, slightly old fashioned work horse clack-clacks quite realistically, without electronics! The tow hitch height is standardised so any vehicle in the set can tow any trailer. The hay fence is removeable on this one and the tailgate hinges down. 40 cm long (16")

Unlike many toy farms, you can play inside the farmhouse in this one. There is a floor and a staircase, making this a two room dolls cottage. It also has a little garden with wall sections interchangeable with the ones in the Barn set, complete with a garden gate.

The stable comes with a horse, tack, 3 hay bales and a ladder. Inside there is a byre, hay loft and a tack hook.

The granary is raised on staddle stones and comes with 3 sacks.

The chicken ark can be towed by the tractor or the new quad bike. Internal access is possible by lifting the roof. It comes with a fence and 2 chickens.

The open top car (we have to be careful about trade marks) carries 4 Pintoys people, while the trailer can hold 2 horses or any other creatures. The tailgate hinges down and there are windows to peer out of.

Wood Valley Farm is a departure from traditional farmyards with their fixed buildings on a baseboard. Taking the floor games line of thinking, the buildings of Wood Valley are separate and large enough so the internal spaces become play areas as important as the 'ground' outside. The scale is larger than usual, approximately double the usual size to accommodate the bendable dolls made by Pintoys. This opens the play space out and broadens the play possibilities so the farmer can climb his ladder to the hay-loft, he can sit in his tractor, he can pick up hay bales and importantly, he can sit down in his farm house for tea at the end of the day.

Items in the Wood Valley set are compatible with other items like the fire engine, the car and the bigger dolls houses. Furniture, dolls and gardening items for the dolls houses are transportable to the farm.

All ready to start collecting her rosettes! The wall jump is in 8 blocks so they can be reconfigured. The pole jump is adjustable and the cavaletto have 3 positions for different heights (as cavaletto do).
